A couple of weeks ago I met with Mark from Guildford Schools Partnership with the young people he supports for a DJing session! It was really good to recognise some of the young people who had completed their Youth Challenge and had come back to do another Award :) The progress the young people are making is really apparent - you can see from their individual portfolios how far they have come and how much they have achieved. I'm looking forward to seeing them next time when I will be presenting the group with their full certificates!

This week I went out to visit Epsom and Ewell Phab, one of our Participating Units. The main purpose of the visit was to collect many portfolios for the moderation that's coming up, and as usual I had a chat with a few of the workers and young volunteers there. On the way out I got talking to Julia Giles, the club leader, and she showed me the amazing vinspired award that the young people at Phab had won. Here's what Julia had to say about the award:

"Epsom Phab won the award for team activity at the recent vInspired award ceremony. Upon hearing that their youth club was going to be sold by the council, the youngsters at Epsom Phab decided to take a stand. They organised rallies, campaign t-shirts and questioned councillors at council meetings all alongside their normal work providing activities and trips for the young people in their community. Their dedication resulted in the council agreeing to provide a new centre for the club. They were invited to the award ceremony at the Roundhouse in Camden where awards were made in 6 different categories. For each entry, there were videos shown of the work that had been carried out by the nominees. After watching the videos of other inspiring teams, the team were absolutely were thrilled when they were announced as the winners."

Here are some of the team with their award and the pop singer A.M.E.:

E Phab V Award

I knew about the hard work that some of the group had put in as the campaign formed much of Courtney Giles' platinum YAA that I presented at the last external moderation. I would like to give a huge "congratulations" to all the young people at Epsom Phab!

Also this week I caught up with the young people and workers (Pat & Lucy) at Banstead Youth Club. They've been delivering YAA Programmes for 2 years now and have had loads of young people complete at various levels. Most young person started off at Youth Challenge and did various activities from home as well as the youth centre, and most received their certificate at last year's YAA Celebration... And it looks like they will be receiving there next level of Awards at this year's celebration!! So well done guys – they're a great group who've all worked extremely hard and done so well!

Surrey Peer Education project is another one of our Participating Units that I have seen recently, it was good to see them and have a catch after the project had to shut for a little while, but now they are back up and running and looking strong! Can't wait to see what they have been up to on there residential which is coming up soon - they always look like they have had a great time from all the pictures so I'm leaving a slot in my diary to go hear all about it and help them organise the evidence against their targets.

Finally, back at the office we've been bust trying to find a suitable "VIP" for the YAA Celebration in October. It's all hush-hush and we're hoping to make an announcement soon – but if anyone has any ideas or, especially any contact, please give me a shout! I've also been preparing the samples for External Moderation with UK Youth in London next week.
