The Bus Shelter Project has recently had some happy news that we will be able to offer music workshops out on the bus in the near future. Local Surrey County Councillor Richard Walsh has agreed to support the project with funds for laptops and software that will help our team and young people to create their own songs while chilling out on the bus. Bus Shelter has been working with young people in Spelthorne to come up with projects that they would like to get involved in.This year there will also be some developments including new seating, an improved kitchen area and a re-vamped look inside the bus. If you are aged between 10 and 19 please come out and visit us and be part of the group making changes and developing activities in the evenings and school holidays. Look at our page on this site for the timetable and where...

An Epic Adventure   Box Hill to Paris – 29 Jun – 2 Jul 2013   And so it was that the Arc de Triomphe, the Napoleonic homecoming for thousands of French troops since 1836, was the zenith for 8 splendid cyclists from Surrey.  The last 15 miles of our epic 222 mile adventure took us over 2 ½ hours, through a very congested Paris, but you could feel the excitement building throughout the morning. As we finally rode up the Avenue de Grande Armée the monument came into view and I’m sure I was not the only one who was overwhelmed by the emotion. The sun was brilliant, the streets were packed and the traffic was impossible but we rode right up to the centre and whooped with joy as we finally arrived at our destination. What a magnificent sight and what a tremendous effort!   Our terrific support crew...

Dear Fellow Riders/ Potential  Riders / Enthusiasts   Welcome to the BoxHill2TheHague Blog – we are aiming for this summer’s ride to be challenging and exciting and FUN.  Expect to make new friends, to be encouraged and supported every step of the way and to Raise Funds for this exceptionally worthy charity.  The ride is not competitive - we are working to make sure that this is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.   The Blog will be updated with new information regularly and all registered riders will be sent a direct link. I will send you updates on training preparation, suggested nutrition advice (which I will need to pay heed to myself) and we can prepare Letters, Packs & Templates to help you take the hard work out of the Fund-Raising part.  All we ask in return is that you join in with full commitment to training yourself...

This week I have been on 3 support visits. My first was to see Spelthorne YSS Young Mum’s group who have been really busy doing loads of activities and organising their trip to the beach. They are working at bronze level and doing challenges which include “turn up to group each week” and  “complete the race for life.” Some are using the awards as motivation to “finish college course work on time” and are now thinking about their last challenge! They have a well deserved trip to the beach next week so have fun everyone!   I had a chat with one young Mum, Lisa Chapman, she had this to say: “I like doing the YAA because it helps me get motivated with everything we are doing at young mums… I mean I love coming here because its great fun and Robyn organises loads of stuff for us to do...

So over the last few weeks I have been really busy with our Annual Celebration… It’s coming around fast so it’s all go-go-go from now on! All our Participating Units will have received their invites this week, and we’ll shortly be posting out invitations to young people and others on our guestlist. Next month I will be announcing the PUs whose young people will be involved in the celebration - whether performing or delivering a presentation as part of their awards or helping to arrange certain areas for the evening. There are still some opportunities left before we announce our programme so if you/the young people you work with want to get involved please let me know!   -----   Ok so this week  I got to meet a few new faces who will be joining so many in delivering the YAA’s with the Lifetrain Trust. Laura ran an “Introduction...

E Phab V Award
A couple of weeks ago I met with Mark from Guildford Schools Partnership with the young people he supports for a DJing session! It was really good to recognise some of the young people who had completed their Youth Challenge and had come back to do another Award :) The progress the young people are making is really apparent - you can see from their individual portfolios how far they have come and how much they have achieved. I'm looking forward to seeing them next time when I will be presenting the group with their full certificates! This week I went out to visit Epsom and Ewell Phab, one of our Participating Units. The main purpose of the visit was to collect many portfolios for the moderation that's coming up, and as usual I had a chat with a few of the workers and young volunteers there. On the way out...
